What if your body already
knows how to be pain-free?
You weren't born with chronic stiffness and pain.
YOU ONCE KNEW
HOW TO SIT, STAND, AND MOVE WITH RELAXED EASE.
And the good news?
It's not hard to learn this again.
Have you already tried everything under the sun . . .
exercises / massage & other bodywork / strength training / yoga / and more
yet, even if these helped for a time,
they failed to bring the LASTING RELIEF you long for?
This is what happens when we're simply managing symptoms rather than addressing the likely cause of discomfort and pain —
STRUCTURAL MISALIGNMENT
The arrangement of our bones in relationship with gravity
determines whether our muscles are tight, weak,
or naturally elastic.
Here's something that might surprise you.
Almost everything you've been told about good posture, core strength,
and how to move without pain — is wrong.
Not partially wrong. Fundamentally wrong.
We live in a culture that is obsessed with muscle. Strengthen weak muscles. Stretch tight ones. Build a powerful core. These ideas go almost completely unquestioned — and yet the chronic pain, stiffness, muscle injury, and structural collapse that is so widespread—and growing—would not be happening if muscles and bones worked together as well-functioning partners. When they do work together, muscles are elastic and the body's "core" is innately powerful.
Here's the inconvenient truth that the fitness industry
hasn't caught up with yet:
Your muscles' primary job is to move your bones. Not to hold you up.
True core muscles stabilize an aligned upright spine without extra effort.
When bones are aligned with gravity, muscles interrelated with those bones know exactly what to do — they move with fluid, elastic ease. When bones are out of alignment, muscles are recruited to compensate, and they lose their innate elasticity. No amount of strengthening or stretching can fix this structural problem, because you're managing the symptom and ignoring the cause.
There's more.
You've probably been told that a "neutral pelvis" is the goal
— or worse, that an anteriorly tilted pelvis is something to be corrected. A quick Google search will return hundreds of articles, blog posts, reels, and such telling you exactly that. This is an understandable mistake because too often the pelvis and ribcage are conditioned to move in tandem.
The problem is not the anterior pelvis, which is a non-negotiable requirement. Lordosis, or arching of the lumbar spine, is never a problem when the pelvis and ribcage are not "locked" into an unnatural pattern, rather than free to move independently of each other.
Watch healthy toddlers anywhere in the world.
Observe an 80-year-old woman in rural Myanmar carrying water on her head. See a former President of the United States take a jump shot ; ) and what you'll see, in all these cases, is an anteriorly positioned pelvis supporting an elongated spine — the same one you were born with, and the same one that makes upright, effortless movement possible.
That forward tilt of the pelvis isn't a problem to fix.
It's the foundation of support for everything above it.
"Aligned people" come in all ages, sizes and shapes — and levels of "abilities."
Whether someone is a world-class athlete or performer or an ordinary citizen going about the tasks of daily life,
the people pictured here all share these same characteristics:
an anterior pelvis, an elongated spine, solid mechanical strength, and relaxed, ease of movement.
This is what your body already knows —
and what most of us have forgotten.
MORE PROOF: Babies & Global Culture
These little ones set the example for those of us who forgot what we once knew.
Infants are born to move. Placed on their bellies, they wiggle and writhe, pressing their arms, legs, and torsos against whatever surface they are lying upon.
These early movements are not random; they activate sensory and motor neurons and build a thriving nervous system, while also engaging deep core muscles that establish the anterior pelvis and long spine relationship, essential to solid human "uprightness." These core muscles continue to strengthen in these early weeks and months of "belly-to-earth" workouts. One of the core's important jobs, especially the transversus abdominus muscle, will be to hold the baby's head up — really! It's these core abdominal muscles, not muscles of the neck, that are in charge of this and so much more.
The upright stability provided to the spine by "the core" is intended to last a whole lifetime. As long as we don't take on unhelpful habits that weaken our authentic core, we'll be able to avoid the pitfalls of a growing epidemic of structural collapse.
Culture Shock of a Whole New Kind
During the year I traveled to faraway places, I was continuously struck by the stunning differences between the way young local people (top row) inhabited their bodies compared to the young Western tourists who visited their countries.
These images tell a revealing story of "dueling" skeletons in relationship with gravity.
In the TOP ROW, each elongated spine is supported by an anterior-placed pelvis. Each skeleton is a whole, ingenious architectural structure in partnership with non-negotiable laws of physics, whether standing, bending, walking, or riding a bike.
In the ROW BELOW, we see a familiar struggle against gravity's downward pull, a losing battle
marked by a posteriorly tilted pelvis and misshapen spine. Structural collapse is the inevitable outcome, along with muscles and fascia that are distorted and strained.
The solution to this collapse might seem obvious:
1) stretch what's tight, and
2) strengthen what's weak —
These are the most common recommendations for discomfort and pain of this sort.
For one thing, this can feel good—for a time—
but soon we find we are having to repeat stretching and/or strengthening
again and again. . . without end.
Why?
Because, together, muscles and bones make up an inseparable system
called the musculoskeletal system.
Focusing solely on muscles or fascia ignores the key role of our bones.
Structural integrity cannot be ignored
when looking for a lasting solution.
And, yes, developing strength and releasing chronic tension via stretching
can have value in therapeutic situations,
PROVIDED THAT structural integrity is upheld throughout.
It's helpful to think of "strength"
as more than just muscle power.
True strength is an integrated "mechanical strength" —
balanced action between muscles and bones assigned to work together
in a primary system of pulleys and levers.
It's not hard to do this—
but you do need to KNOW WHAT TO DO : )
⭐️⭐️ If you love your daily gym routine, running marathons, or scaling mountains, go right ahead and keep doing it! But I urge you to consider this when you do:
Your overall health and future comfort will be best served if you take the time to understand your body's innate design (this may differ from other "good form" instructions you might have been taught for how to train).
For instance, "building muscle" can be beneficial if it doesn't undermine elasticity in muscles, thereby restricting natural mobility in weight-bearing joints (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, and atlas), as well as joints up and down along the spine.
The clear benefits of movement and exercise multiply greatly when your bones are naturally aligned.
Natural alignment isn't just for people who live in other places in the world.
Natural alignment is your forgotten birthright!
It belongs to each one of us!
WHY HAS SKELETAL ALIGNMENT BEEN OVERLOOKED?
Good question.
Modern medicine has given us extraordinary insight into skeletal anatomy. We can measure bone density, analyze joint mechanics, and map muscle physiology in breathtaking detail.
And yet something fundamental has been overlooked: the entire skeleton as a unified, moveable architectural structure. As such, it is designed to distribute the forces of gravity through bones arranged according to basic laws of physics, like everything in our world.
It's not that professionals don't know their anatomy. It's that we've been trained to focus on separate parts without considering the integrated wholeness of this structural framework of support.
Add to that a fitness culture that has redefined health as visible muscle — "shredded" as the new ideal — for some this comes with a particular "look" that can be seen through tighter-than-usual clothing (or little at all ; ). This new societal ideal creates a firewall that makes it challenging for alternative views to reach the people who may need it the most.
(I know from personal experience the disregard that can rise up when new ideas are presented. I once received an email that was six words long: "Kathleen Porter, you are an idiot!" It was from a PhD biophysicist professor in Europe. It landed as a gut punch at the time, though it has helped me persevere, as these concepts speak for themselves.)
I am an Osteopathic (Family) Doctor in Hawai’i, who personally had a spinal injury that led me to study posture and to Kathleen’s work.
This resulted in complete resolution of pain from a herniated disc and moderate spinal stenosis. As a medical practitioner, I sought to learn more from Kathleen in a way I could effectively teach this to my patients.
I signed up for Kathleen's online course 'Pain-Free Living with Natural Posture' and, not only did I thoroughly enjoy her teaching style, I now feel able to convey this important 'message' to others.
As a D.O. (osteopathic physician), the body's NATURAL posture, not what we are usually taught about "posture," is what makes sense, while perfectly blending structure with function.

Hello!
I'm Kathleen Porter ~
I'll be 80 on my next birthday
I'm fortunate to be reaping the benefits of being pain-free, easily flexible (without stretching!), and gratefully enjoying comfortable vitality.
THIRTY-TWO YEARS AGO, I learned how to release myself from years of ongoing stiffness and pain. I was a massage therapist and yoga teacher at the time, unaware that I had become addicted to daily stretching to release chronic tension in my body caused by misaligned bones.
IN THE YEARS SINCE, I've traveled to faraway places meeting and observing people who easily carry heavy loads on their heads and those who've aged with surprising mobility and vitality. I've written books about this, taught classes to adults and children, created an online course, and devised an easy-to-follow roadmap that leads back "home" to inhabiting the body as Nature always intended it.
MY JOURNEY WITH NATURAL ALIGNMENT transformed more than just my own struggles with pain—it ignited a lifetime mission. I'm committed to two things: first, creating an easy-to-follow roadmap that can be applied to one's daily life; and second, making the case for natural alignment so clearly—not as another method or technique, but as a description of the human body's innate design—that it earns scientific validation and helps us overcome the ever-growing epidemic of pain and discomfort in the modern world.
Natural alignment is your birthright.
My mission is to help you reclaim it,
wherever in the world you happen to be.
Let's talk for a moment about the "P" word — Posture —
a word that's loaded with expectations, guilt, and
memories of being scolded to "sit up straight!"
Our cultural ideal of "good" posture
means a lifted-up chest and pulled-back shoulders,
the way people in the military stand "at attention."
A ton of tension is required throughout the body to maintain this stance, and
this over-correction pulls bones out of whack while arching the spine.
This misunderstanding of "good posture" is just as likely to contribute
to an epidemic of aches and pains
as chronic slouching does.
At some point in my youth, I lost my original alignment and became a sad dog.
I tried counteracting this by stretching and strengthening muscles that turned me into a tense dog. Luckily, when I was 47, I had the good fortune to learn how to become a happy dog!
" I kept thinking it shouldn't be this hard
to be human.
It turns out I was right! "
As an occupational therapist, I still struggled with chronic hip, back, shoulder, knee, and foot pain for over 20 years. It seemed I had tried every exercise approach, every treatment, and consulted with every specialist under the sun.
Injections and spinal fusion were recommended. That's when I decided to figure out how to heal myself.
Kathleen and her alignment work changed everything, and I began to feel better almost overnight! Since then, I've been able to work alongside my partner in creating a homestead and building our house ourselves.
We recently took a 10-day bike trip!
Now when I encounter discomfort, I understand it's something I will be able to resolve."

Meet your new best pal, Bone Ami!
It's common to think of the skeleton
as being rigid and stiff—even "lifeless."
Bone Ami begs to differ!
Watch this 20-second video as Bone Ami demonstrates
the ease of movement and flowing grace
available to all human skeletons
when moved by naturally ELASTIC muscles.
This is the freedom of movement that's been waiting for you all along!
Being sedentary is never a healthy option.
Regular movement is crucial to our health,
providing many essential benefits.
"Exercise," in and of itself, does not predict how we age.
HOW we inhabit our bodies while we exercise —
or simply move through our days,
will tell the story of how we age.
The missing piece in aging well
Only recently have we begun to recognize that stiffness and pain are not inevitable features of aging. Exercise programs for seniors have cropped up everywhere—and while physical activity is certainly helpful, we're putting the cart before the horse by overlooking postural patterns established decades earlier, even among people who remained physically active their whole lives.
In some places I visited, it was common to see people in their 80s and 90s out in public, moving with vitality and ease—some even carrying heavy loads on their heads.
The difference? Natural skeletal alignment. This single characteristic keeps muscles flexible, movement free and easy, and mechanical strength intact well into old age.
While it's never too late to experience meaningful improvement, the longer one waits to implement steps to reverse the effects of chronic misalignment, the more challenging it becomes.
When I first learned this I wanted to know when I would master it, so I wouldn't have to think about it anymore and could just carry on in "cruise control!" 😂
The answer, of course, is never!
And this turns out to be a wonderful thing!
Learning to align your bones is an invitation to become more mindful.
You pay attention to not just HAVING a body, but BEING a body,
moment by moment for the rest of your life.
Well . . . at least as often as you can remember . . . Everybody forgets A LOT in the beginning!
Never mind. Just keep going.
There's no final destination to reach, just an ongoing and unfolding journey staying anchored in your body, and along the way, being naturally aligned becomes more and more your natural state.
Natural alignment and mindfulness are perfect partners because
practicing one enhances the other. This combines the best of both worlds as you take on qualities of
Embodied Presence
Rather than working to build a new body,
you'll be uncovering what's been waiting to be rediscovered.
-
You'll be guided through a step-by-step process of learning how to align your bones according to our human design. This is THE KEY to easeful living since muscles that attach to aligned bones become naturally elastic, rather than tight or weak.
-
You'll re-discover the strong, yet relaxed, middle way found between slouching and tense over-corrected posture. It's likely you once knew this aligned way of being as a small child—so how hard can it be, right?
-
Your muscles won't complain so much, now that your bones will be doing their assigned job of providing the underlying framework Nature intended for them to for you all along.
-
You'll learn how to apply the basic alignment principles to sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and much more—and how to incorporate these various actions into everything else you do.
-
You'll be taking that first giant step forward on the path of transforming your body from longstanding habits and patterns of tension, stiffness, pain, disconnection, structural collapse, overcorrection— the list goes on . . . and you'll discover the freedom that awaits you at the other end.
-
You'll be guided in the years ahead by a key fundamental principle: Your bones must align in a specific arrangement that distributes gravitational forces through them. Do this and you'll start feeling great today, and you'll age with ease tomorrow.
This is where
Pain-Free Living with Natural Alignment comes in —
to guide you through knowing HOW to inhabit your body with authentic, mechanical strength and fluid mobility.
How this course works
A new module arrives in your inbox once a week for 10 weeks — designed this way deliberately. We're not just learning new information here; we're changing long-standing habits of movement and body awareness that have built up over decades. Rushing undermines the process. Resources and Tips
Here's where you'll find a list of resources and some tips that provide support and help to keep you going.
"Repositioning my bones brings an immediate
feeling of relief and relaxation.
Now whenever I notice I'm stressed or in some unpleasant mood state, I check out my alignment.
As a shrink, I ask myself if some of the symptoms my patients experience could be caused by the constant muscle tension of living in an unaligned body."

Why This Works As Well As, And Often Better Than,
In-Person Classes
In-person instruction has real benefits — I taught in-person classes, workshops, and private sessions for twenty-six years, so I know firsthand how valuable it can be to have a teacher guide you through the process.
This course gives you the best of both worlds - visual clarity that rivals and even out-performs hands-on instruction, the ability to review concepts as many times as you need (we're changing long-standing habit patterns here), and guidance that's available when you need it.
You own access to the course "forever," meaning you can take all the time you need to review whatever lessons are most helpful to your situation. And come back to review earlier lessons, as they often hold new gems that become more clear as you add more layers of understanding.
"Taking Kathleen’s Alignment Basics workshop
changed my life.
At 67, I was experiencing neck, shoulder, and knee pain that worsened with age and seemed chronic. The pain melted away, along with what felt like a lifetime’s worth of stored tension. I began performing life’s daily activities—bending, squatting, climbing stairs, reading in bed—in total comfort again."

From Learning to Living
The real transformation happens when you apply these principles to everyday moments:
- Tying your shoes
- Lifting a heavy box
- Climbing a ladder
- Getting up off the floor
- Working in the garden
- Driving a long distance
Each ordinary activity becomes an opportunity to build your transformation through practice. Your body and brain collaborate to rediscover natural alignment. The more you integrate these principles into your daily life, the more quickly and effortlessly your original design becomes your new normal.
"If this training were incorporated into public schools and yoga training, our society would discover
a whole new comfort and ease with ourselves.
After years of studying various kinds of bodywork in order to correct my scoliosis, I’ve learned profound yet simple, easy to apply tools that have virtually relaxed my spine and posture almost overnight.

What About Diagnosed Conditions?
Some structural injuries and disabilities are permanent, and it's important to be clear about that. However, these are the rare cases, with many common diagnoses misunderstood by medical practitioners, when there's often more to the story. Common conditions like sciatica, herniated discs, or spinal stenosis, have many health professionals stumped. Typically, structural misalignment is not considered to be the cause of herniation of a disc—or narrowing of the spine (stenosis), or compression of the sciatic nerve, and yet again and again, it is.
And so everything from physical therapy exercises, a focus on more stretching or strengthening, and even surgery as a last resort, are employed.
But what if we flip that script?
Same diagnosis. Different root cause. Everything changes.
Even when distortion of the spine is considered the cause of painful nerve compression, few health professionals understand that an aligned skeletal structure must be rebuilt from the ground up—something each patient, with help—must do themself.
Traditional therapies - exercise, massage, physical therapy - do sometimes offer temporary relief. But comfort that is truly enduring is far more likely to come from addressing the underlying skeletal alignment.
What you'll learn in this Pain-Free Living with Natural Alignment course is that you can learn to put yourself in charge of how you feel. This is how you'll transform yourself from the inside out!
" I cannot express the life-changing benefits
of the work Kathleen Porter does.
I joined this course after a crippling back operation that left me with left leg numbness and no reflex in my right knee. I had to use a walker and was advised not to bend or twist.
I am 69 years young and have three beautiful grandchildren and was unable to enjoy being with them. After googling madly, I found Kathleen and started her online course.
Now I have a wonderful life, walker-free, going on picnics, and able to play with my grandchildren.
I am leading a normal life again.
I have to pinch myself sometimes to believe that this has happened."

When you consider what most people spend trying to find relief:
massage sessions at $80–$150 each, chiropractic visits, physical therapy and doctor visit co-pays, acupuncture, gym memberships (the list goes on)— often repeated week after week, month after month—for years. The costs add up quickly, and the relief, when it comes, rarely lasts.
Pain-Free Living with Natural Alignment costs less than just a few of those visits —
and rather than having something done to you, continuous access to the lessons for the life of the course, provide you with the tools you need to put yourself in charge of how you feel.
"Kathleen's teaching is revolutionary. She states a case that could change the Western world.
It's been twenty years since learning this from Kathleen allowed me to return to my work as a massage therapist, after I was in too much pain to continue. My life was greatly enhanced by what I learned.
Unfortunately, after facing another health challenge recently, I forgot some of what I knew and soon developed excrutiating sciatica pain. After several acupuncture visits gave me short-term relief, I revisited Kathleen's instructions, and within just two days—no more pain! It's GONE!"
